A Round of Applause for GIMP
Having sampled the delights of GIMP for over a year now, I’ve decided to dedicate a post to this life-saving, wondrous, user-friendly and FREE (can you believe that?!!) image editing software. Yes, we’re all aware of Photoshop – and as students we’re also aware of its hefty price tag. I just so happen to have a previous version of Photoshop and yet I keep leaning towards GIMP when I need to undertake a little image trickery. For example, this evening I happened to stumble across this ‘neon’ function. It’s official: my heart belongs to GIMP.

I can see where you’re coming from with your attraction to GIMP; as I mentioned to you, I have photoshop and the book for idiots (i’m still an idiot), but due to your little lesson on how to remove backgrounds, I am an avid fan too; just a pity I haven’t managed to move on from that little trick!!

Bonjour!! I have a little secret for you…YOUTUBE!!!! Whatever effect you want to create, just type it into YouTube and I bet my £40 beloved ‘Dreamweaver Pebble’ designer cushion that it will surely display a tutorial for it!! x

Hey Anita, I’m really liking this Neon lighting in GIMP. I downloaded GIMP some time ago and have studied videos on You Tube. I have not found this software easy to use, but after seeing this I must go back & spend some more time getting to grips with it.

Thanks for your feedback. I think the main problem with this type of software is getting to grips with its format and finding the time to practise. Once you’re familiar enough with it, you will never look back!! Very briefly, once you input your desired text; you select ‘Filter’s’; ‘Alpha to Logo’ and then ‘Neon’. You will see your text transform right before your eyes! 😉
