Put Your Design Savvy To The Test
Are you all about the high-end ‘designer’ look, or do you prefer shopping around on a more modest budget for a similar design?
And are the more upmarket offerings really all that? Are they more successful at conveying a certain aesthetic, concept, theme or statement? And are they worth the extra £££s?
Then there’s the mid-range and budget options. Are you more than happy to make a compromise and opt for the less expensive mid-range offerings that still retain a certain level of credibility/visual appeal?
Or do you prefer to take a stand against consumerism by choosing the budget option? Is function more important to you than style? Is it possible to choose budget without compromising on design? Well, is it?!
It’s time to put your money where your mouth is; we’re going to play a game called ‘Don’t be ridiculous, of course I know the difference between designer and budget’.
The following products are fairly similar in their overall design but have varying price-tags. Can you spot the crème de la crème? There’s no prize for the winners; just the satisfaction of knowing that you have a keen eye for detail! Oooooh, the tension!

I like this game, right I am opening myself up here as my “eye” should be as good as yours but I am going (either in order of top to bottom or left to right as they appear)

I generally think that there are certain pieces which are worth splashing on. Although most often you can’t tell at first, when you take a closer look at the detail such as the quality of stitching, jointing, etc. as well as the fabrics and materials used, you can often see where the money goes. I found a lot of designers choose pieces based on what looks great now: but the client will want this stuff to look just as great in 5 years time with normal wear and tear and that’s where the quality and price really shows.
