SketchUp Does Weddings Too! Who Knew?
When you become familiar with the astounding adaptability and flexibility of SketchUp, you quickly realise that a whole world of possibilities awaits you.
I started using SketchUp (and Maxwell Render) for interior design purposes, so that Interior Designers could convey their design proposals to clients. as accurately and as realistically as possible. Read more about my 3D visualisation process here.

But 3D visualisation doesn’t have to be restricted to interior design. It can include a huge range of different types of concept design, including weddings and events.
I recently had the pleasure of creating a lovely little 3D visual for a Wedding Planner (Isabel Smith Wedding Design), of a wedding reception at the majestic Hedsor House and decided to honour this commission with one of my infamous animations.

I reckon if you blow some of the highlights out it will look even better! Try pushing up the lightness of the exterior image and desaturate slightly also!… Glow white highlights!!

That’s exactly what I thought when I came across you on Twitter! It can be an isolating career choice because it’s so niche. I see what you mean, it definitely looks better 🙂 I would probably mask off more of the interior though so that it doesn’t appear overexposed. I’ll have to experiment over the weekend. I’m constantly refining my technique and learning new things. Does the learning curve ever stop?!

Nah it never ever ends 😀 Isolation is the word, most of the serious artists are all self taught from beginning to end! As long as the appetite is there you cant really go wrong.

I’m starting to learn that. Pffft! How long have you been in the Archviz industry? I’ve only been doing it ‘properly’ for the last year. It’s all consuming! Saw your work on your website, it’s amazing (jealous)!

Hey your work is all the more awesome since your still relatively early enough on, I’d hate to show what mine was like back then 🙂 I’ve been a vis artist for around 8 years now, last 3 been out on my own, Best thing to ever happen.
I admire your work Anita, you definitely have the skills, it looks like you have a promising career ahead of you! The blog and everything in here is great too. Always thought about doing one but never really got around to it.. You do it justice!

Gavin, stoppit!! You’re making me blush *cue dopey grin*! You’ve no idea just how much that means to me. I’m always plagued with self doubt, but then that goes hand-in-hand with being a ‘creative’, right?!
Wow, you’re a seasoned professional then! Trust me, I look back at my work a year ago and cringe. But it’s important to look at old stuff. Shows you how far you’ve come. I had a ‘breakthrough’ moment last year when I created the vintage Edison bulb 3D visual. It felt like all of the hours (sometimes entire weekends) of research and self teaching finally paid off! But you probably already know how torturous the process of self teaching can be! I find that wine helps 🙂 Slightly unorthodox.
I’m glad you like the blog too 🙂 It’s a part time job keeping it updated flip sake but I love interior design/3D Visualisation and the blog is a great way to express my passion for both.
You should seriously consider creating your own blog. It’s great, both personally and professionally. Do it! Do it! Do it! Haha.

Aye favourite works have a tendency to be your last/current project don’t they! looking back only a few visuals you find more and more to critique and dislike even with some of your better works.
There’s some impressive skills on show with the light bulb project after having looked at it! Congrats!! The hard works paid off! Shows nothing’s ever above you when you invest the time and passion. Yes indeed wine does make the process more enjoyable 🙂
I’ve a few years under the belt now, But long over due another personal project.. It’s defo the only time I get to create something I can be throughly happy with (no naggy clients) I’m unable to display most of my work these days with NDA.
I haven’t felt the need to update a polished website/domain yet, Luckily had no shortage of work to keep me busy.. But I think this year I need to invest some quality time to streamline the ‘brand’ and idea I want to go forward with.
The full creative package, complete control of a project from the roots to the finished product. (Branding, idenity, direction, graphics, motion, advertising, visuals, animation, film, photography, product – whatever. Total control.
Blog is now on ‘the list’

Haha! You’re so right! My last personal project is my favourite. It’s my own design (the dark living room with the fur throw). I wanted to sharpen my skills for the fur technique and also produce a really awesome urban styled space. But then recently I played around with the light coming from the window because I didn’t think there was enough ‘glow’!! It’s only really been the last few months that I’ve appreciated just how important post-processing is. Getting to grips with all of the Photoshop techniques is another separate learning curve altogether. But I think I’m getting there.
I’m also starting to develop peculiar habits. Like studying reflections/shadows in reality. A few months ago I was standing in my living room studying water in a vase. I’m guessing this is what happens when you’re getting ‘serious’ about visualisation!!
I love personal projects. No set brief that you have to adhere to and no demanding deadlines (I mean seriously, those all-nighters are ROUGH!!).
The ‘total control’ thing can’t be beaten. I look forward to seeing what you come up with 🙂
