I’ve Been Featured in 3D World Magazine!

If you’re not familiar with the world of CG, 3D World Magazine is a globally recognised publication that delves into all sorts of exciting topics on the CG front (or 3D Visualisation); from reviews on upcoming gadgets to expert advice on how to create certain effects using awesome 3D technology.

I was contacted a few months ago by one of the team at 3D World Magazine asking if I’d be interested in writing a few articles for the magazine, in the form of an ‘expert’ Q&A (I’ve used inverted commas because I’m still not completely comfortable being associated with the term ‘expert’…see, I’ve done it again).  Anyway, after I wiped my laptop to get rid of the spluttered coffee stains, I immediately replied in a very casual and nonchalant manner to confirm, that yes, I would be interested.

It was a pretty straightforward process: I typed up the narrative, ensuring that it was clear and concise (although I had no choice but to keep it on point due to the word count I was given), attached a few images and waited for confirmation that my articles had been approved.

At this stage I want to say that I moved on with my life.  But I didn’t.  My life was most definitely put on hold until I received confirmation that my work had been given the green light.  I may have checked my inbox 15.8 times per day.  Give or take.

I didn’t have to wait long.  A few days later I was put out of my misery and received the news I had been longing for: one of my articles would be published in the magazine’s September issue.

Get IN!

You’re wondering why this is so important to me, right?  Well, in most industries, validation and credibility is important.  Especially when you’re a self-taught freelancer, who can suffer from self-loathing on any given day where your creative and technical skill is concerned.  Plus, it’s tough to try and make a name for yourself in such a niche industry, particularly when you’re competing with so many talented 3D Artists.

I’m not saying that an article in 3D World Magazine is going to make me an overnight sensation in the 3D world but my goodness, it’s a cosmic conversation starter!

Without further ado, here’s my article in all its clear and concise glory.

Today is a good day.
